ROYAL HAWAIIAN CENTER CELEBRATES LUNAR NEW YEAR

Two Weeks of Complimentary Events Include Lion Dancing, Calligraphy, and Other Festivities

Waikīkī – Royal Hawaiian Center ushers in the Year of the Horse with its signature Lunar New Year activations, inviting kamaʻāina and visitors alike. Guests are invited to enjoy live lion dance performances, custom calligraphy, and other cultural experiences to bring the energy and excitement of Lunar New Year to the heart of Waikīkī.


Lunar New Year Festivities


Center-Wide Lion Dance

Tuesday, February 17 | 5:00–8:00 PM | The Royal Grove & Participating Stores

Celebrate Lunar New Year with a center-wide Lion Dance at Royal Hawaiian Center on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Festivities begin from 5:00–5:30 pm with a traditional Lion Dance performance by Lung Kong Physical Culture Club in The Royal Grove, where guests can pick up a custom Royal Hawaiian Center red lai see from Helumoa Hale to feed the Lion. From approximately 5:30–8:00 pm, enjoy the lively Lion Dance as it travels throughout the Center and participating stores and restaurants, spreading good fortune for the year ahead.


Acrobatic Lion Dance

Saturday, February 21 | 6:30-7:00 PM | The Royal Grove

Experience the excitement of Lunar New Year celebrations on Saturday, February 21, 2026, with an Acrobatic Lion Dance performance by Wah Ngai Lion Dance Association. From 6:30–7:00 pm in The Royal Grove, guests can enjoy a high-energy showcase of strength, balance, and tradition. 


Traditional Chinese Folk Dance

Sunday, February 22 | 3:30-4:00 PM | The Royal Grove

Celebrate Lunar New Year on Sunday, February 22, 2026, with a Traditional Chinese Folk Dance performance by Oriental Dance Studio. From 3:30–4:00 pm in The Royal Grove, guests can enjoy a graceful showcase of traditional Chinese dance and culture.


Calligraphy with Ina Chang

Saturday, February 28 | 3:00-6:00 PM | The Royal Grove

Celebrate Lunar New Year with a special calligraphy experience featuring Master Chinese calligraphy artist Ina Chang. On Saturday, February 28, from 3:00–6:00 pm in The Royal Grove, Ina Chang will create beautiful good luck fortunes for guests, offering a meaningful glimpse into the rich tradition of Chinese calligraphy as a timeless art form and expression of culture.
