Feb. 01, 2019

Waikīkī – ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi Month festivities continue at Royal Hawaiian Center with Papa ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi, an eight-week Beginning Hawaiian Language class in Helumoa Hale. Starting on February 4 and offered every Monday through March 25 (no class on President’s Day, February 18) from 11 a.m. to noon, Papa ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi lessons are designed to cover common greetings and introductions for those with no prior knowledge of the language.

“With Hawaiian language so deeply rooted in the history of Royal Hawaiian Center, we’re proud to offer this unique opportunity to visitors and kamaʻāina alike who are looking to familiarize themselves with the language,” said Monte McComber, Cultural Director at Royal Hawaiian Center.

Supplemented by visual aids, a course syllabus and other valuable learning materials, the Papa ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi classes will feature a 45-minute lesson with the last 15 minutes reserved for a progressive lesson building upon the content taught in the previous week’s session. Recommended for ages 12 and up.

Classes are free but limited to the first 25 attendees. To reserve your spot in class, visit Helumoa Hale after 10 a.m. on the day of the scheduled class. For more information, visit www.RoyalHawaiianCenter.com or call Helumoa Hale Guest Services at 808-922-2299.
