ROYAL HAWAIIAN CENTER HOSTS HULA HOʻOLAUNA ALOHA 2019 MINI HŌʻIKE

Waikīkī – On Friday, October 4, 2019, Royal Hawaiian Center brings Japan’s top hālau hula to the heart of Waikīkī at the Hula Hoʻolauna Aloha 2019 Mini Hōʻike. From 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., guests are invited to The Royal Grove for the opening ceremony of Hula Hoʻolauna Aloha 2019, a four-day festival uniting the Japanese and Hawaiian cultures through hula. The annual event is organized by JALPAK International Hawaiʻi.
“Royal Hawaiian Center has had the pleasure of hosting the Mini Hōʻike, Hula Hoʻolauna Aloha’s first event, since 2014 and we’re thrilled to continue this tradition in 2019,” said Aaron Salā, Royal Hawaiian Center’s director of cultural affairs. “Mini Hōʻike kicks off the four-day festival, and is a fantastic event for visitors and Hawaiʻi residents alike to enjoy a snippet of the diversity of hālau hula.”
Featuring eight hālau hula hailing from across Japan, Mini Hōʻike will provide the public with the rare opportunity to experience the beauty and diversity of this beloved Hawaiian art form.
“The Royal Grove is a beautiful and intimate setting for this very special event,” said Eiichi Abe, Event Director of Hula Hoʻolauna Aloha Committee. “We’re thrilled to return to Royal Hawaiian Center for this kick-off hōʻike, which sets the stage for the three days of hula that follow.”

Created in 2002, the annual Hula Ho‘olauna Aloha hula festival celebrates Japan’s love for the hula in its birthplace, while bridging the two cultures through dance and friendship.
