EXPERIENCE THE CULTURE OF HAWAI‘I AT ROYAL HAWAIIAN CENTER

Waikīkī – Guests at Royal Hawaiian Center will again have the opportunity to learn to play the ‘ukulele, dance hula, weave laulaha and make lei during the day, and watch music and hula performances in the evenings with the return of complimentary cultural classes and an expansion of its current live Hawaiian entertainment.

“We are so excited to be able to offer these cultural classes at the Center again, and really provide our guests with a culturally-immersive experience,” said Monte McComber, Cultural Director. “We also encourage kama‘āina to join our classes to further their understanding of Hawai‘i’s land and people. It’s our goal to develop a greater appreciation for the Hawaiian culture and this place we call home.”

Since the Royal Hawaiian Center opened its doors in 1980, it has welcomed both locals and visitors, and aimed to provide the best cultural lessons, shopping, and dining experiences.

Complimentary cultural classes are held Monday through Friday as follows:

  • Monday

    • ʻUkulele, 11 a.m. – Noon, Helumoa Hale, 12 persons

  • Tuesday

    • Hula, 11 a.m. – Noon, The Royal Grove

  • Wednesday

    • Lauhala Weaving, Noon – 1 p.m., Building A, Level 2, 25 persons

  • Thursday

    • Keiki Hula, Noon – 12:30 p.m., The Royal Grove

  • Friday

    • Lei Making, Noon – 1 p.m., Building A, Level 2, 25 persons

No reservations are needed, but space is limited. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, classes will have a maximum of 12 or 25 students. It is best to come a few minutes early to hold a spot. For additional information on classes, visit events.

In addition to cultural classes, Malu Niu Evening Entertainment is also being expanded at the Royal Hawaiian Center. Authentic Hawaiian music and hula performances will be held on Tuesdays through Fridays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at The Royal Grove. July’s schedule includes:

    • The Kawika Trask Trio (5:45 p.m.)

  • Wednesday

    • Puʻuhonua

  • Thursday

    • Haʻehaʻe Girls

  • Friday

    • Malu Productions

  • Saturday

    • Hula Kahiko

    • Keiki Hula Performance (11 a.m. – Noon)

  • Sunday

    • Hula ʻAuana

All programs are subject to change without notice.

New Kamaʻāina Parking Program

Royal Hawaiian Center has also launched a new parking program for exclusively for local residents and military members. With a minimum $10 purchase from any of Royal Hawaiian Center stores or restaurants, receive 3-free hours of validated parking; standard parking rates apply thereafter. Validations must be redeemed at Helumoa Hale Guest Services from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily with receipt(s) and a valid Hawai‘i State I.D., driver’s license, or military I.D.
