HONOLULU-Hawaii is celebrating with the Kingdom of Morocco the long and rich relationship between Morocco and the United States which started in 1777 when Morocco became the first country ever to recognize the independence of the United States. This connection continues today with the newly established Sister State relationship and agreements between Morocco and our beautiful State of Hawaii, covering a variety of fields including education, culture, tourism, environment and
business.

This majestic week long celebration is full of festivities with the idea of experiencing the best of various and unique parts of Moroccan culture and civilization, and much more of what makes Morocco an exceptional African, Arab and Mediterranean country, right here in our beautiful island of Hawaii.

A high level delegation will soon be descending on our shores to join Governor Neil Abercrombie and other local and international dignitaries and Hawaii citizens to begin this first ever celebration of His Majesty King Mohammed VI Week in Hawaii.

The official opening of the ceremony will begin with a welcoming speech by Governor Neil Abercrombie of the State of Hawaii and address sent by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, 10:00 am -- 12:00 noon at
Washington Place followed by signing of the Sister State Agreement between State of Hawaii and Region of Rabat-Sale-Zemmour-Zaer, Morocco.
